The Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro (CHE) will celebrate the first edition of the Centenary Meetings, an initiative conceived as a space for dialogue on the territory, water, and the history of hydrological management in the Ebro basin, next January 15, at La Casona de Reinosa.

Meetings in Reinosa: Conversations about the Ebro reservoir and its territory will feature the participation of Agustín Monteoliva Herreras and Rogelio Galván Plaza, and is part of the commemorative program of the CHE’s centenary.
This first session of the Centenary Meetings will address, from a dual environmental and historical perspective, the role of the Ebro reservoir in shaping the landscape and in the development of hydraulic policies in the basin. The format seeks to promote a contextualized reflection, connecting past and present.
Agustín Monteoliva Herreras, PhD in Biology and director of the environmental consultancy Ecohydros, S. L., will focus his intervention on the environmental aspects of the Ebro reservoir, analyzing its ecological functioning, its evolution, and the main challenges associated with its conservation and management.
For his part, Rogelio Galván Plaza, a technical engineer of public works, with a degree in History and head of the Economic and Social Studies Service of the Hydrological Planning Office of the CHE, will address the birth of the Confederation and its link with the reservoir, placing the origin of the institution in the historical and social context of the early twentieth century.
The Centenary Meetings are part of the program of commemorative activities of the CHE centenary and are developed in parallel to the exhibition For the Ebro basin, inaugurated in December in Reinosa as the first venue of the exhibition itinerary. This line of meetings will continue throughout 2026 in different parts of the basin, with the aim of bringing the history, challenges, and perspectives of water management closer to the public.

About the CHE
The Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro is a basin organization of intercommunity scope, attached to the Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico. Its functions include the construction and maintenance of infrastructure (dams and canals), the maintenance and management of the organization’s assets, hydrological planning, the administration of the public water domain, and coordination with the sectors linked to its various uses and with the administrations, with the aim of guaranteeing sustainable management in the Ebro basin, the largest in Spain. About the Centenary
The Ebro River Basin Authority of 2026 was born under the name of Ebro River Basin Trade Union Confederation, created on March 5, 1926 and officialized the following day in the Gaceta de Madrid. That project, in which the engineer Manuel Lorenzo Pardo played a decisive role, introduced in Spain the idea of managing water under the principle of basin unity, overcoming administrative limits and betting on integral planning. A century later, its centenary offers the opportunity to revisit that origin and bring the evolution of water management in the Ebro closer to the public.
