The Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro today inaugurated its Centenary traveling exhibition at the Casa de las Ciencias in Logroño: Por la cuenca del Ebro.
28/04/2026
The event featured the institutional presence of Javier San Román Saldaña, Centenary Commissioner, and Conrado Escobar Las Heras, Mayor of Logroño. The exhibition Por la cuenca del Ebro is now open to the public in Logroño from today, April 29, 2026, and can be visited until May 31, 2026, at the Casa de las Ciencias.
The exhibition route reviews one hundred years of water management in the Ebro basin and combines historical documentation, hydraulic heritage and outreach content on the territory’s current challenges.
At the Logroño venue, the exhibition includes a section focused on the relationship between the city and La Rioja with the Ebro: a territory shaped by the river, its orchards, vineyards, and riverside uses. This local content has also been developed through the collaboration of various Riojan institutions, which reinforces the shared nature of the exhibition and its roots in the cultural, patrimonial, and social memory of water.
The traveling exhibition also includes a condensed version of the Centenary documentary and an unreleased film from the Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro’s documentary collection about the construction and inauguration of the González-Lacasa reservoir between 1932 and 1934.
The program linked to the Miranda de Ebro venue includes the Centenary Encounters, which will be held on May 14 at the same Casa de Cultura, with presentations by Alfredo Ollero Ojeda and Pablo de la Cal Nicolás.
About the CHE
The Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro (CHE) is an inter-regional river basin authority, attached to the Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico. Its functions include the construction and maintenance of infrastructure (dams and canals), the maintenance and management of the authority’s assets, hydrological planning, administration of the public hydraulic domain and coordination with the sectors linked to its different uses and with public administrations, with the aim of ensuring sustainable management in the Ebro basin, the largest in Spain. Desde su creación ha trabajado para equilibrar la gestión técnica con la protección ambiental y el interés público con el diálogo territorial.
About the Centenary
The Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro (CHE) was established under the name Confederación Sindical Hidrográfica del Ebro, created on March 5, 1926, and made official the following day in the Gaceta de Madrid. That project, in which engineer Manuel Lorenzo Pardo played a decisive role, introduced to Spain the idea of managing water under the principle of basin unity, transcending administrative boundaries and advocating for comprehensive planning. A century later, its centenary offers the opportunity to revisit that origin and bring the evolution of water management in the Ebro closer to the public. The commemorative program invites people to learn about this legacy and participate in it.
