The centenary of the Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro, celebrated on March 5, 2026, has had extensive media coverage and notable institutional recognition. Various media outlets have addressed the anniversary from complementary perspectives: historical, territorial, technical, and environmental.

El Periódico de Aragón has developed one of the most comprehensive coverages of the anniversary. In its reports One hundred years of the organization that changed the landscape of Aragón and One hundred years of history of the Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro, it reviews the evolution of the organization since 1926 and highlights its impact on the landscape, economy, and water planning of the basin. This coverage is complemented by a video featuring Javier San Román, Deputy Water Commissioner of the CHE, providing expert insight into river management and the transformation of water policy over the past century.

For its part, Heraldo de Aragón has emphasized the institutional value of the anniversary and the pioneering nature of the basin management model introduced with the creation, in 1926, of the Confederación Sindical Hidrográfica del Ebro.

Other media outlets have broadened this perspective from different angles. Aragón Digital has given visibility to the public projection of the centenary and some of its commemorative initiatives. iAgua has placed the anniversary within the framework of the current technical debate on water management, data, and digitalization of the water sector. Diario del Campo has highlighted the agricultural, territorial, and modernizing dimension of the organization, while Ecoticias has emphasized the environmental relevance and the projection of the Spanish basin management model.

This media coverage is complemented by institutional support. MITECO has framed the anniversary within the history of river basin authorities as a pioneering model of water governance and has announced commemorative initiatives throughout 2026.

Additionally, ONCE dedicated its coupon on March 5 to the centenary, with five million coupons distributed throughout Spain. The National Lottery also dedicated the draw on March 7, 2026 to the centenary, and this draw was broadcast on RTVE Play, further expanding the public visibility of the anniversary.

Overall, these publications and actions agree that the creation of the Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro represented a turning point in the way water resources are planned and managed. A century later, the CHE continues to occupy a central role in water governance and in responding to challenges such as drought, flooding, water quality, and the conservation of river ecosystems.
