The Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro (CHE) is holding a new session of the Centenary Meetings in Logroño (La Rioja) on May 14, at 6:00 PM, at the Casa de las Ciencias de Logroño. The event is part of the CHE’s centenary programme and is linked to the travelling exhibition Through the Ebro Basin, which will tour different venues across the basin during 2026.

Under the title “Conversations around the Middle Ebro: river restoration and urban space”, the session addresses two issues directly related to the urban stretch of the Ebro in Logroño: river restoration, understood as the recovery of the physical functioning of the river and its banks, and urban renaturing, focused on integrating nature, public space and the river within the city.

The meeting features Alfredo Ollero Ojeda with the presentation “River restoration and hydromorphology in the Ebro basin”. His contribution expands on the content of his article in the Centenary book Through the Ebro Basin, “Hydromorphological recovery. Ecological flows”, focused on river recovery and the importance of maintaining ecological conditions for its proper functioning.

Pablo de la Cal Nicolás will also take part with the talk “Renaturing in the city: limits and aspirations”, linked to his article in the same volume, “Urban invariants in Ebro cities”, which explores the historical relationship between Ebro cities and the river, and how that relationship shapes contemporary urban space.

The centenary book can be consulted in digital format via direct download. It can also be purchased in print through Prames, Todos tus libros and, in Logroño, at Entrecomillas Bookshop.

Full information about the meeting, including date, time, venue and description, is available in the centenary agenda: Centenary Meetings: Logroño.

Admission is free until capacity is reached.

About the CHEThe Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro (CHE) is an inter-regional river basin authority, attached to the Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico. Its functions include the construction and maintenance of infrastructure, such as dams and canals; the maintenance and management of the authority’s assets; hydrological planning; administration of the public water domain; and coordination with sectors linked to its various uses and with public administrations. Its aim is to ensure sustainable management in the Ebro basin, the largest in Spain. Since its creation, it has worked to balance technical management, environmental protection, the public interest and territorial dialogue.

About the Centenary

The Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro (CHE) was founded under the name Confederación Sindical Hidrográfica del Ebro, created on March 5, 1926 and made official the following day in the Gaceta de Madrid. That project, in which engineer Manuel Lorenzo Pardo played a decisive role, introduced in Spain the idea of managing water under the principle of basin unity, overcoming administrative boundaries and committing to comprehensive planning. A century later, its centenary offers an opportunity to revisit those origins and bring the evolution of water management in the Ebro closer to the public. The commemorative programme invites people to discover this legacy and take part in it.
