Aragón Radio interviews Javier San Román about the start of the CHE’s centenary celebration

The program De puertas al campo, from Aragón Radio, dedicated part of its broadcast on December 2 to the presentation of the centenary events of the Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro (CHE). The journalist Carlos Espatolero, host of the program, interviewed Javier San Román, commissioner of the centenary, that same afternoon to expand on the details of the commemorative program that will take place from the end of 2025, and throughout 2026.

During the conversation, Espatolero introduced the announcement made by the CHE in the morning and asked about the start of the events on December 17 in Reinosa, where a traveling exhibition will be inaugurated that will travel the basin “from the source to the delta.” San Román explained that this exhibition will travel through Miranda de Ebro, Logroño, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Pamplona, Huesca, Lleida and Tortosa, where it will conclude in January 2027.

The interviewer also highlighted the arrival of a larger-format exhibition in Zaragoza in October 2026, at the Palacio de Sástago, and San Román confirmed that both exhibitions will share a focus on the Ebro landscape, the natural environment, and the historical evolution of the Confederation.

At Espatolero’s initiative, the interview focused on the figure of the engineer Manuel Lorenzo Pardo, whose role was decisive in the creation of the CHE. San Román recalled that he was the one who convinced society of the need to coordinate the basin’s users and promote essential hydraulic works for the country’s progress in the twenties.

At one point in the conversation, Espatolero emphasized the validity of the Ebro as a territorial axis, and San Román reinforced the idea by recalling the importance of the principle of basin unity: “everything that happens in the headwaters has repercussions downstream,” he stated, referring to a territory of 85,000 km², almost 20% of the national surface area.

The journalist also asked about the upcoming centenary actions, and the commissioner confirmed the publication of the commemorative book on March 5, the exact date of the anniversary, in addition to the development of a documentary and the launch of the website chebro100.com, which already offers an agenda, bulletin, and program updates.

The interview ended with Espatolero thanking the commissioner for his participation and highlighting that Aragón Radio will continue to report on the centenary activities in its upcoming broadcasts.
