The CHE inaugurates its Centenary travelling exhibition in Miranda de Ebro

The Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro inaugurated today at the Casa de Cultura in Miranda de Ebro the travelling exhibition for its centenary: Along the Ebro Basin

17/03/2026

The event was attended by the Centenary Commissioner, Javier San Román Saldaña, and members of the Municipal Corporation of the Miranda de Ebro City Council.

The day began with media attention at 6:30 PM and continued at 7:00 PM with the institutional event, after which a tour of the exhibition was held.

The exhibition Along the Ebro Basin has been open to the public in Miranda de Ebro since today, March 17, 2026, and may be visited until April 11, 2026, at the Casa de Cultura.

The exhibition route reviews one hundred years of water management in the Ebro basin and combines historical documentation, hydraulic heritage and outreach content on the territory’s current challenges.

At the Miranda de Ebro venue, Miranda de Ebro, the exhibition includes a section focused on the city’s relationship with the Ebro: a city structured on two riverbanks, with a key nodal role linked to the crossing and railway activity, and with a river stretch where the Bayas, Zadorra and Oroncillo rivers converge. In this context, the local content includes references to risk management and recent environmental actions: hydrological monitoring supported by SAIH stations, actions to improve flood discharge capacity, riverbank restoration and the recovery of wetlands such as the Bayas lagoon.

The travelling exhibition also includes a shortened version of the Centenary documentary and an unpublished film, from the CHE’s documentary archive, about the Confederación’s early years in the upper stretch of the Ebro River.

The programme linked to the Miranda de Ebro venue includes the Centenary Meetings, which will be held on March 26 at the same Casa de Cultura, with presentations by Clemente Prieto Hernández and José Adolfo Álvarez González.

About the CHE

The Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro (CHE) is an inter-regional river basin authority, attached to the Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico. Its functions include the construction and maintenance of infrastructure (dams and canals), the maintenance and management of the authority’s assets, hydrological planning, administration of the public hydraulic domain and coordination with the sectors linked to its different uses and with public administrations, with the aim of ensuring sustainable management in the Ebro basin, the largest in Spain. Desde su creación ha trabajado para equilibrar la gestión técnica con la protección ambiental y el interés público con el diálogo territorial.

About the Centenary

The Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro (CHE) of 2026 was founded under the name Confederación Sindical Hidrográfica del Ebro, created on March 5, 1926 and made official the following day in the Gaceta de Madrid. That project, in which the engineer Manuel Lorenzo Pardo played a decisive role, introduced in Spain the idea of managing water under the principle of basin unity, overcoming administrative boundaries and committing to comprehensive planning. A century later, its centenary offers the opportunity to revisit those origins and bring the evolution of water management in the Ebro closer to the public. The commemorative programme invites people to discover this legacy and take part in it.
